Synthetic amorphous silica has an anhydrous molecular formula SiO2 (often expressed as SiO2 • xH2O due to bound surface water) and a molecular weight of approximately 60.08 g/mol. It is a synthetic, amorphous form of silicon dioxide.

- Specific Surface Area (BET): Typically ranges from 50 to 400 m2/g (varies by grade)
- Primary Particle Size: 5 to 50 nm (aggregates into agglomerates of 1 to 100 μm)
- Pore Volume / Oil Absorption: 100 to 350 ml / 100 g
- pH (5% aqueous suspension): 5.0 – 8.0
- Loss on Drying (105°C): ≤ 6.0% (bound surface moisture)
